George McGovern's Lesson

Anybody remember George McGovern?  Tuesday was his 89th birthday.  If you don't remember, he was a Senator from South Dakota and then Democrat candidate for President, and a college professor before all that.

After he lost the race for President, he bought a motel in New England.  He went broke within two years.  Here is the point.  After his two years managing a real business right into bankruptcy, he said, "I wish I had had this experience before I got to Congress."

Paul Ryan graduated from college and went directly to work in Washington and has never worked anywhere else.

Eric Cantor was elected to the Virginia legislature when he was 26, and has been working for the government ever since.

The list goes on, and on.

Wish George happy birthday.
