This IS Important!!

The June 16, 2012 issue of the Economist has a long special section on Global Warming.  It is entitled Special Report:  The Arctic.  It is extremely important that you read this material and understand the issues it describes.

The Economist was first published in 1843 and I have been reading it almost since the beginning.  The magazine is generally quite conservative and I have yet to find an error of fact in any issue.  We'll get to why this is important to you in a minute.  But first, here are three selected sentences to give you some idea of the importance of the topic.

"Since 1951, it (meaning the Arctic) has warmed roughly twice as much as the global average."

"It is hard to exaggerate how dramatic this is.  Perhaps not since the felling of America's vast forests in the 19th century, or possibly since the razing of China's and western Europe's great forests a thousand years before that, has the world seen such a spectacular environmental change."

"Sooner or later such arithmetic is going to force governments to get serious about dealing with climate change."

Now the reason that it is vitally important for you to understand this issue is that ALL TEN of Mitt Romney's  potential Vice President picks are self declared global warming sceptics.  Lord knows what Mitt believes.  But for all of these people to deny the huge amount of science covered in the Economist report is simply mind numbing!!
