Unemployment continues to grow. Currently, there are 9.8 million Americans without jobs.
6.3 million of them have been out of work for 27 weeks, or more. That is a record.
1.0 million of them have been out of work for 99 weeks or more.
The longer you are out of work, the less likely it is that you will ever get a job.
This month, 2 million American families will lose unemployment benefits and have no income whatsoever.
400,000 small businesses have disappeared since 2008 and small businesses are the primary source of new jobs.
We are in the process of creating a new underclass of permanently unemployed people, ala France, et al.
This is serious stuff for all of us, and Congress refuses to do a damn thing about it.

I have read both of the books Lessig talks about and I recommend them highly.
